A faithful journey

Pastor Spencer is the founding and senior pastor of The Church of Chicago.  He is married to Dolores Spencer, and they have been married for 40 years.  They have four children: Tenia (Rueben), David, and Terrence.  Pastor Spencer is a native of Chicago, which he loves.  In addition, he earned degrees in music from Chicago State University, attended Roosevelt University's graduate program, and graduated with a ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas.

He has served at two Chicago-area churches, including the Apostolic Church of God under the late Bishop Arthur M. Brazier and All Nations Community Church.  While in Dallas, Pastor Spencer served in the ministries of Pastors Rev. Dr. Gene Getz, Rev. Dr. Tony Evans, and Rev. Dr. Eddie Lane. In these ministries, he has served in outreach, singles, young families, music, teaching, and preaching.

Passionate for the kingdom of God through Christ

While the whole world should receive the gospel of Christ, Pastor Spencer's vision is for a city-centric ministry (city/suburbs).  The cities are the most densely populated and often the most needy.  There is hope for the cities that influence the rest of the world in the gospel of Jesus Christ.  True gospel transformation not only changes the individual but also the family, schools, communities, and the city as a whole. This is the kingdom-minded church, total transformation.

Like many cities across the world, the Chicagoland area cries out for people who are passionate about unbelievers coming to know Jesus Christ as Savior.  Whether you are an unbeliever or a believer, we believe that The Church of Chicago is a place for you.  Another aspect of the vision for this church is to become multiethnic in a traditionally segregated urban area.  Pastor Spencer would like you to join us for this great adventure in faith, hope, and love.  Indeed, there is no other name by which people can be saved.  Jesus Christ!
